General overview
Asteroid Protocol gives users the ability to permanently upload content to the Cosmos Hub blockchain. This content can include anything a web browser can display from JPGs to JSON, text files to videos. Once uploaded, your content is accessible to anyone with an internet connection for as long as the Cosmos Hub blockchain (or even a copy of the blockchain) exists. In effect, Asteroid Protocol uses Cosmos Hub as a database for storing information. And this can be done extremely cheaply (typically ranging from $0.01 to $0.35 depending on the size of your file).
Common use cases for Asteroid Protocol
Uploading art collections and selling them in an on-chain marketplace. As inscriptions, you can rest assured that all artwork is verifiably on-chain (unlike other NFT platforms)
Commemorating major announcements by permanently uploading the news to Cosmos Hub
Creating tokens (known as CFT-20s) on top of Cosmos Hub, functionality that is uniquely enabled by Asteroid Protocol
Launching "metaprotocols" or other permanent applications
Using on-chain content within web2 applications (the ROID Runner game, for example, allows you to mint an on-chain character and pay with CFT-20s when playing the off-chain game. Any CFT-20s you lose are re-distributed to all the day's players)
